February marks the beginning of ACHS’s Black History Month celebration. Throughout the month, our school honors the enduring contributions, achievements, and resilience of African Americans—both locally and across the nation—through meaningful lessons, activities, and school-wide events. Black History Month plays an essential role at ACHS by deepening understanding of African American history and lived experiences. It provides all students with opportunities to learn about the vital role African Americans have played—and continue to play—in shaping our society. For African American students, this month affirms identity, honors heritage, and celebrates a legacy of courage, creativity, and leadership. For our entire community, it encourages empathy, challenges stereotypes, and strengthens cross-cultural understanding, helping build an inclusive and connected school environment. Through engagement with civil rights history and ongoing efforts toward equity and justice, students are encouraged to reflect on their role in creating positive change through informed action, collective responsibility, and moral courage.
